Dominic Raab, The Brexit Secretary has resigned saying he “cannot in good conscience support” the UK’s draft Brexit agreement.
The British Prime Minister, Theresa May announced yesterday that she had secured the backing of her cabinet for the agreement.
“I cannot reconcile the terms of the proposed deal with the promises we made to the country in our manifesto at the last election. This is, at its heart, a matter of public trust,” he said
It was acknowledged that several ministers were understood to have spoken against it. And there are suggestions of moves among Conservative backbenchers to force a no-confidence vote in her.
McVey, a Brexit hardliner, was the second senior minister to quit on Thursday over May’s draft agreement.“The deal you put before the cabinet yesterday does not honour the result of the referendum,” she told the prime minister in her resignation letter.
In contrast, The European Union leaders will meet on November 25, to endorse the divorce deal.
