Atiku’s Lawyer In Serious Trouble As EFCC Drags Him To Court For ‘Laundering $2 Million’

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the EFCC on Tuesday re-arraigned a lawyer to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uyiekpen Osagie-Giwa, and his son, Erhunse Giwa-Osagie, before the Federal High Court in Lagos on a three-count charge of money laundering to the tune of $2 million.

The duo was first arraigned before Justice Nicholas Oweibo on a 3-count charge bordering on the alleged offence on August 14. They both pleaded not guilty.

The EFCC said in a statement that the accused were both re-arraigned before Justice Chuka Obiozor for the first time.

The commission said the lead counsel to the first and second defendants, Ahmed Raji and Quarkers Norrison, were represented by Johnson Samuel and Olufemi Anjorin respectively.

They reportedly applied in writing to the court to adjourn the matter on the grounds that the lead counsel for both defendants were not in the court.

It added that the lawyers also informed the court that a letter had been written to the Administrative Judge of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, seeking directive to consolidate the case as same charges were filed against the defendants before both Justice Obiozor and Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke

The prosecution counsel, Kufre Uduak, however, confirmed the receipt of the ‘consolidation letter’ and the applications for adjournment.

Mr Uduak who held brief for Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court that the plea was to be taken by the defendants and not their counsel, adding that, “absence of lead counsel should not stall proceedings given the fact that they are represented in court.”

“There was no concrete basis for the defence counsel to seek the administrative judge’s permission for consolidation of the case.

“The matter before Justice Oweibo is not in any way related to the case brought before your lordship, and does not require any form of consolidation,” Mr Uduak reportedly told the court.

Justice Obiozor, therefore, overruled the prayers of the defence for adjournment and ordered that the defendants take their plea.

He then held that the court cannot predetermine the decision of the administrative judge on the consolidation of the cases.

“The court has to wait to hear from the administrative judge on consolidation but, however, the defendants shall take their plea,” Mr Obiozor ruled.

The defendants then pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In view of their plea, the prosecution counsel, Mr Uduak, asked for a trial date.

Counsel to the defendants urged the court to allow their clients to continue to enjoy the bail terms and conditions granted by Justice Oweibo.

Justice Obiozor acceded to the request of the defendants.

He adjourned the case to December 5 for possible hearing as parties await the decision of the administrative judge on consolidation.

nnamdi-kanu-will-expose-more-on-atiku-buhari-soon

The Indigenous People of Biafra on Sunday said its leader, Nnamdi Kanu would expose more about the nationality of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.

It also insisted that the person occupying the seat of Nigeria’s president was not the “real” President Muhammadu Buhari.

The All Progressives Congress had told the Presidential Elections Tribunal last week that Atiku was a citizen of Cameroon and therefore was not qualified to contest any election in Nigeria.

IPOB, in a statement made available to our source in Awka, Anambra State by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said its leader would soon exposé more on the two issues in a broadcast.

The group said, “To drive home this message, our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will deliver a special address on Radio Biafra for yet another expose on the fraud called Nigeria and further clarification on the thorny issue of Atiku’s nationality.”

The group said, “With the ongoing events in Nigeria, it is now clear to all and sundry that any word uttered by our leader is the unquestionable truth backed up by irrefutable facts. Atiku’s nationality debate attests to this.”

The group’s statement read in part, “Every lecture on history, social policy, economy, politics and law is designed to liberate the poorly informed half-educated masses of Nigeria from the darkness and oppression of Fulani Caliphate misrule, illiteracy, broken education system, mediocrity and subjugation.

“Those who, over the years, derived joy in propagating the lies that Radio Biafra is about propaganda and hate speech are the ones today relying on it to get factual information on constitutional law in Nigeria.

“Senior Advocates of Nigeria now depend on Nnamdi Kanu to tutor them on constitutional law and the dysfunctional legal system of Nigeria.”

The group added, “Those that referred to IPOB as miscreants are now the same people quoting and referencing the speeches of our supreme leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in their legal depositions.

“Nigerians will come to the inescapable realisation that Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari is dead and the impostor in Aso Rock is neither of Nigerian citizenship as Atiku nor birth, which both Jubril and Atiku are not.

“The Fulani Aso Rock cabal and their friends in mainstream media in Nigeria can seek to dismiss this fact but in the end, the truth must surely prevail.”

FORMER Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of Social Democratic Party, SDP, Mr. Donald Duke and that of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili on Tuesday boycotted the signing of peace accord by Presidential candidate’s and their political parties in Abuja.

The ceremony which was organised by National Peace Committee for a peaceful conduct of the 2019 elections, was attended by diplomatic corps, international community, religious and traditional rulers.

There was no information on why Atiku and others absented themselves from the ceremony. Speaking as the guest speaker, the former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon advised the Presidential candidates and their political parties to honour the agreement they have signed in the interest of the nation.

The European delegation advised the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and security agencies to be neutral in the election. The EU said that Nigeria set a record of credible and transparent election for Africa and the world to emulate in 2015, advising that such gain recorded should be consolidated

The coast is now clear for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, to visit to the United States following the issuance of a visa to him.

It was learnt that Atiku had received the visa to enable him to travel the USA, which he last visited about 13 years ago.

Atiku on Tuesday appeared at the US Embassy in Abuja, where he was interviewed and his fingerprints taken.

Sources close to him told one of our correspondents in Abuja on Saturday night that Atiku was delighted with the issuance of the visa.

Atiku had stopped visiting the USA after the FBI investigated a bribery scandal that involved a former US congressman, William Jefferson.

The former Vice President was accused of demanding a kickback of $500,000 to facilitate the award of contracts to two American telecommunication firms in Nigeria.

Yesterday it was Atiku jets out of the country to the U.K but he returned back to Nigeria after failing to secure the US Department of Justice assurances of entering US without being arrested.

A group, Initiative To Save Democracy has said that it has credible information that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar has returned to Nigeria after failing to secure assurances from the US Department of Justice that he will not be arrested if he sets his foot into the soil of the United State.
