Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi as been named Fifa’s The Best men’s player of 2019 at a ceremony in Milan, beating Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo to the prize.

It is the sixth time Messi has been voted the best player in the world.

Van Dijk’s Liverpool teammate Alisson Becker won the men’s best goalkeeper prize while their manager Jurgen Klopp was named best manager and used the stage to announce his commitment to Common Goal, a charity founded by Juan Mata pledging one per cent of salaries to charity.

The women’s best player was named as Megan Rapinoe, the US star who helped to win the World Cup this summer. She beat her US teammate Alex Morgan and England’s Lucy Bronze to the award.

Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi,  has been presented with his fifth Golden Shoe award for leading all of Europe’s soccer leagues in scoring last season.

The Argentine forward who scored 34 goals last season and led his club to the title was presented with the Golden Shoe award on Tuesday.

Egyptian and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was the second leading scorer of Europe’s domestic leagues with 32 goals in the Premier League.

In a statement, Messi, 31, who is Barcelona’s all-time leading scorer with 572 goals in 655 games, said: ‘I love football, but when I started I didn’t expect all this. My dream was to be a professional player,’ Messi said.

‘This is thanks to the hard work and effort I have put in, and above all to my teammates. I have the best players in the world at their positions playing beside me.’

 

Lionel Messi has ensured he can travel in style after splashing the cash on a new luxury private jet.

The 31-year-old Barcelona icon has reportedly leased the incredible plane so his family and friends can travel around in comfort.

And the £12million Jet, being leased from an Argentine company, includes some incredible attention to detail.

The exterior sees the tail branded with his signature number 10, whilst the names of him his wife, Antonello, and their three children, Thiago, Ciro and Mateo, are written on the steps.

A plane of the specs of Messi’s purchase includes a kitchen, two bathrooms and 16 seats that can be turned into eight beds to sleep through the night.
