British-Nigerian rapper, Skepta is one of the most skilled and influential rappers in the grime scene. So, it comes as no surprise that rising New York drill rapper, Pop Smoke, enlisted the international sensation for a remix of his riveting single, “Welcome to the Party”.
“Welcome to the Party” is a typically boastful drill track, and Skepta fits right in on the remix, as he raps about his nonconformism, his way with the ladies, and even mocks other rappers, especially those foolish enough to snitch on themselves on their verses.
On his verse, Skepta presents a totally unbothered persona, un-phased by the hate, “it’s a waste of time sending death threats, I got love letters I ain’t read yet”, and equally as carefree when it comes to the pressures of fame, “it’s a hundred racks when I touch a stage, how could I ever get nervous?”
Pop Smoke’s moody chorus sees him rap about getting lit off a cocktail of Molly, Xanax and Lean, adding Hennessy to the mix during his party-themed verse. Produced by UK-based beatsmith, 808Melo, Skepta’s verse is a natural fit for this song and, of course, ends up being a highlight.
